Common Builds

The purpose of this guide is to provide an outline of popular builds. This guide by no means attempts to present the best possible or optimal build. These builds should be taken with discretion.

Engineer

No Navigation

This build takes advantage of the engineer's 1.5 craft/lvl bonus.

Pros

  • Very high hp
  • Decent damage
  • Can stand passive for extended periods of time
  • Mining provides decent funds

Cons

  • Requires all possible ship parts to catch up to NPCs
  • Cannot PVP effectively

Weapons of Choice

  • Cannons for overall effectivity
  • Subcannons for passive for maximum use

SP Distribution

  • 40-60 Craft, Rest Gunnery. Avg hp and great damage
  • Variations may be applied at your choice
Note

Engineer builds range from defender to high damage. It's all up to you.

Explorer

This build focuses on using the natural 1.5 bonus nav per level to maximize speed and damage with melee weapons.

Stat distribution

  • 1:0:5 (craft:gunnery:navigation)

Weapon of Choice

  • Melee weapons

Ships of Choice

Useful for: Exploring

Pros

  • Can usually sink enemy NPCs in one volley
  • High speed enabling first round attack at levels below 60
  • No need to change weapons so frequently since the choice of melees are limited
  • Damage of melee weapons are the strongest for levels below 100.

Cons

  • Low HP, usually cannot survive 2 volleys from other players
  • Not many weapons to choose from
  • Difficult to catch player targets beyond level 59
  • Drastic increase in demand for resources for high-level rams
  • The advantages of melee weapons over cannons diminish beyond level 100 esp. for those who are not willing to consume ocho.

Pirate

This is useful for taking advantage of the Pirates 1.5 gunnery points per level. PvP is also good since the pirate gets extra gold from attacking, although it is generally considered to be negligible.

Stat distribution

  • 2:1 (gunnery:craft)
  • Generally no navigation but up to around 30 can be useful for keeping up and or catching players when attacking, and for preventing slowdown issues.

Weapon of Choice

  • Generally cannons or subcannons but gunnery also increases missile damage.

Ships of Choice

  • Vanguard
  • Aegis
  • Obsidian Destroyer
  • Battle Royale
  • Katana
  • Claymore

Useful for: Exploring, PvP

Pros

  • High gunnery increases cannon and subcannon damage
  • Good attackers in PvP and clan war
  • Wide range of weapons to choose from
  • Able to attack nearly every target, especially if you are carrying a set of missiles in reserve

Cons

  • Lower HP makes them less useful on defense where they fire second.
  • Need to switch gear to attack all targets
  • More frequent weapon updates can cost more resources and gold

Trader

Traders operate in a way very similar to the explorer. This build takes advantage of the 1 nav and 0.5 craft points per level.

Stat distribution

  • 1:11 (craft:navigation) no gunnery
  • Some players have had success with builds which have higher craft
  • More HP is gained at the sacrifice of speed

Weapon of Choice

  • Melee weapons

Ships of Choice

  • Merchant O' War
  • Cargo Dirigible

Useful for: Exploring, PvP until the level 60 area

Pros

  • Can usually sink enemy NPCs in one volley
  • High speed enabling first round attack at levels below 60

Cons

  • Low HP, usually cannot survive 2 volleys from other players
  • Not many weapons to choose from
  • Difficult to catch player targets beyond level 59
